09:21:49 rbrunner7:monero.social: My proposal how to solve the problem that SNeedlewoods brought up in last Monday's meeting
11:37:33 sneedlewoods_xmr:matrix.org: My first impression, this is a great proposal. I'll try to look into this more closely later today, thank you for writing and sharing this
12:13:53 rbrunner7:monero.social: Glad you may like it. Despite bringing even more work for you :)
15:23:34 rbrunner7:monero.social: A first visible result of my journey into Polyseeds, an overview how current wallet apps use them, with a special focus on encrypted Polyseeds: https://github.com/tevador/polyseed/issues/13#issuecomment-3980281619
16:13:51 ofrnxmr:monero.social: So cake can restore an offset wallet and an encrypted one, but it creates encrypted?
16:14:05 rbrunner7:monero.social: Yup.
16:16:01 rbrunner7:monero.social: This is to discuss of course, but I would propose that at least on the restore side, **all** wallets should implement Cake's little switch, and become able to restore anything sensible, including encrypted seeds.
16:17:04 rbrunner7:monero.social: With an argument of "seeds are holy, seeds are sacred, we never will let anybody stand in the rain with a valid seed"
16:18:22 ofrnxmr:monero.social: Yeah, seems like cakes ability to restore either is the most/only sane solution
16:21:11 rbrunner7:monero.social: Absolute minimum seems to me to reject an encrypted Polyseed, like Feather Wallet does, if devs are too busy, or too lazy, to add and handle inputs for passphrases in their dialogs. Restoring a wallet with a completely wrong address is ... bad.
16:22:34 rbrunner7:monero.social: Or if they reject encrypted Polyseeds on philosophical grounds :)
17:04:21 ofrnxmr:monero.social: Duress restore 😆
17:47:16 rbrunner7:monero.social: Yeah, that has something. And if you restore on such a wallet app, somebody watching who does not yet know about that "passphrase" thing at all doesn't get ideas from something on the restore dialog ...
