does monero have good error messages? ran into a new low recently, nbd-client complaining there's not enough magic
13:25:43
Bunnyh:
didn't find anything about that on google, only another problem regarding "wrong magic"
13:26:26
Bunnyh:
so funny it makes me think of ditching the software for an alternative (iscsi)
13:27:56
Bunnyh:
could be a great user story if someone has a hdd error but monero complains about wrong magic and wallet seems gone
13:40:46
moneromoooo:
I don't understand your question, try more smurf.
13:41:24
moneromoooo:
That said, non trivial improvements to error reporting are likely to get merged.
13:42:01
moneromoooo:
Magic in a software context typically refers to hoped unique enough well known chunks of bytes used to detect some particular format.
13:43:25
moneromoooo:
So, I'd totally see a "wrong magic" error being "the data you asked me to process doesn't look to be the kind of data I need as first glance".
13:43:56
moneromoooo:
If it's supposed to be seen by non tech users, the rewording would be good.
15:29:10
Bunnyh:
just asking are monero error messages informative. should just develop something with it to find out i guess
15:32:08
Bunnyh:
isn't there a mining proxy that mines all the randomx coins profit switching? IIRC moneroocean was doing that at some point at least
15:32:14
Bunnyh:
paying above 100%
15:34:31
Bunnyh:
I have such a proxy pool project I did myself, last used for a ghostrider miner pool paying out in litecoins. maybe could do a monero pool. the biggest reason I never got around to it is so far I worked only with wallet software that's cloned from bitcoin
15:34:43
Bunnyh:
so monero felt quite alien
15:38:13
Bunnyh:
https://miningpoolstats.stream/monero heh still some prop pools (my proxy was initially for pool hopping...) herominers the only prop pool at top 10 and the only with regularly spiking in hashrate, what a coincidence...
15:39:08
Bunnyh:
could reach even 150% payouts on average pool hopping in best times, but that never lasts of course.
15:40:23
Bunnyh:
I was right, monero would transition away from that mistake all coins seem to repeat before I could get my shit together and adapt my pool hopper for it. the situation was much more lucrative 2 years ago. im just too lazy
15:41:07
Bunnyh:
though I wonder is pool hopping even that easy on monero as it seems to be on other coins?
15:41:53
Bunnyh:
a pool hopping proxy is pretty similar to a profit switching one on the same coin, and sure the 2 strategies can even be combined. but with monero it seems mostly the profit switching (between coins on same algo) strategy remains.
15:42:09
Bunnyh:
many randomx coins regularly spike above monero for a moment in whattomine
15:43:38
Bunnyh:
running such a proxy on a scale significant to those coins but insignificant to monero should have a pretty predictable outcome to their value..
