Hey y'all what happens to cake wallet community support
12:45:43
redti1989:matrix.org:
?
12:46:26
dukenukem:
redti989 what do you mean what happens to cake wallet community support?
12:46:47
dukenukem:
what even is cake wallet community support? 🤔
12:47:43
redti1989:matrix.org:
dukenukem: Matrix room doesn't exist and telegram dead
12:48:00
redti1989:matrix.org:
Reddit Quiet since around 8 November
12:48:30
redti1989:matrix.org:
And new centralized support is offer
12:48:34
dukenukem:
redti989 let's start from the beginning... neither of those rooms are supposed to be used for support queries, they are/were more of a hangout space, *not* for actually getting support.
12:48:50
dukenukem:
if you need support, send in an e-mail, or use the in-app chat support featuree.
12:49:15
dukenukem:
telegram group was phased out months ago, now there's only a channel, no group.
12:49:30
dukenukem:
Matrix room does exist, I am in it right now.
12:50:01
dukenukem:
just to be abundantly clear: you should _never_ use the matrix room or reddit as an official support channel.
12:51:13
redti1989:matrix.org:
I prefer support from community
12:51:43
dukenukem:
🤷 don't complain when you get scammed.
12:51:49
dukenukem:
Cake won't be responsible.
12:52:00

12:52:15

12:56:51

redti1989:matrix.org:

12:58:29
dukenukem:
lol
12:58:46
dukenukem:
sure thing, buddy. good luck with that. 👍️
12:59:23
dukenukem:
you are basically saying you rather get support from online randos vs. from actual cake employees on payroll, using *official* support channels.
12:59:36
dukenukem:
you do you. good luck with that, as I said. 🤷♂️

20:57:51
rawr_barky_blep:matrix.org:
so i guess will have to try to do the whole "settings -> developers options -> Linux development environment (Experimental) Run Linux terminal on Android" and do the whole monerod from here (pruned most likely) then do the 127.0.0.1 in those mobile wallets i guess...
20:57:51

i like native debian running natively tho, just didnt wanna bother have to download the whole blockchain on mobile data...
21:05:17
rawr_barky_blep:matrix.org:
but yea, same thing pretty much
21:11:02
Cindy_:
if you're gonna download the whole blockchain on mobile data
21:11:07
Cindy_:
just stick to a remote node over tor
21:12:39
rawr_barky_blep:matrix.org:
right, skylight wallet didnt work for me on that, made the wallet, sent funds to it and it wasnt showing up in there, was able to restore that same wallet to monero dot com tho, but today literally none are able to sync, it shows the block remaining properly, when restarting it adds the new remaining blocks to the count too, but it just dont sync...
21:12:45

@rawr_barky_blep:matrix.org: can try proot

yea, that's what been causing my issues cause had an unpaid bill on that which fixed it yesterday, idk wtf for today tho
21:17:27
Cindy_:
what's with your network
21:17:36
Cindy_:
is it a CGNAT?
21:17:57
rawr_barky_blep:matrix.org:
no idea, its https://silent.link/
21:18:00
Cindy_:
or some crappy network that blocks ports that it doesn't know?
21:18:18
rawr_barky_blep:matrix.org:
it worked for a whole year until now...
21:18:40
Cindy_:
what network specifically
21:18:41
ofrnxmr:xmr.mx:
Try an https node
21:18:48
rawr_barky_blep:matrix.org:
thought that maybe they would be blocking those ports today but they literally accepting monero so... dont really make sense u know
21:18:52
ofrnxmr:xmr.mx:
like seth's
21:19:10
Cindy_:
slient.link is a eSIM reseller
21:19:13
ofrnxmr:xmr.mx:
Seth's is port 443 so should look like normal data
21:19:17
Cindy_:
they don't maintain the actual underlying network
21:20:00
rawr_barky_blep:matrix.org:
idk its on roaming, ill check https node but the wallets do have automatic node switching, seeing the thing selecting the default ones but maybe adding a custom one could help, hence why thought 127.0.0.1 would work if running monerod but i just too lazy for that rn, too expensive, too long, too nerdy lol
21:20:26
Cindy_:
running monerod would probably not work if you're under a CGNAT
21:20:32
Cindy_:
which is most likely if you're using mobile data
21:20:41
Snipa:
Monerod isn't very happy behind cgnat, but it does work.
21:20:44
Cindy_:
using a remote node is your best chance
21:20:57
ofrnxmr:xmr.mx:
Cindy_: Works on my own mobile network
21:21:09
ofrnxmr:xmr.mx:
Cindy_: they are using remote nodes rn
21:21:30
ofrnxmr:xmr.mx:
But they are probably using them w/ http, so providers might be blocking
21:22:11
ofrnxmr:xmr.mx:
id either try tor, or an https node on port 443 (seths)
21:22:29
ofrnxmr:xmr.mx:
If tor and https work, then the network is blocking monero
21:22:30
Cindy_:
why is HTTP a option in monerod
21:22:42
Cindy_:
like plain HTTP
21:22:51
ofrnxmr:xmr.mx:
Because you dont need https on a local network
21:23:02
Cindy_:
no i mean HTTP outside LAN
21:23:05
ofrnxmr:xmr.mx:
Self signed certs dont play nice with curl etc
21:23:28
ofrnxmr:xmr.mx:
Because its the default to be in autodetect mode
21:23:37
Cindy_:
monero should be refusing to connect to node over HTTP (unless it's in LAN or over tor/I2P)
21:23:37
rawr_barky_blep:matrix.org:
seth's node in the default on monero dot com, its 443 so https already, maybe disabling SSL there could work, idk lol
21:23:48
ofrnxmr:xmr.mx:
You can juat slap https infront of the url to use https
21:24:20
albertlarsan68:albertlarsan.fr:
Cindy_: You don't always know what is LAN and what isn't, especially over IPv6
21:24:25
ofrnxmr:xmr.mx:
--rpc-ssl=<autodetect|enabled|disabled> default is autodetect
21:24:25
rawr_barky_blep:matrix.org:
Snipa: o/ btw
21:24:32
ofrnxmr:xmr.mx:
Uses self-signed certs
21:24:48
Cindy_:
ofrnxmr: but does monerod do what i said earlier?
21:25:07
Cindy_:
like refuse connections if it's outside LAN, not over tor/I2P, and uses plain HTTP
21:25:10
Snipa:
Why would monerod care? It's the server, not the client. Clients enforce SSL security.
21:25:43
Snipa:
Your defintion of what is LAN may not be the same as what I consider to be LAN.
21:25:54
Cindy_:
hm, isn't monerod the one that has the option to connect to a remote node? or am i forgetting a detail
21:25:58
Snipa:
No?
21:25:59
Cindy_:
maybe i'm wrong
21:26:07
Cindy_:
it's probably the wallet programs
21:26:07
ofrnxmr:xmr.mx:
monerod is the node
21:26:15
ofrnxmr:xmr.mx:
Are you thinking of monero.com
21:26:17
Cindy_:
but still, monero clients
21:26:19
Snipa:
I mean, it can for P2P sync, but that's expected. Wallet is the bit that needs to connect to remote nodes.
21:26:30
ofrnxmr:xmr.mx:
@ofrnxmr:xmr.mx: That use a "use ssl" toggle
21:26:33
Cindy_:
do monero clients refuse connections to nodes if it's outside LAN.. blah blah blah
21:26:35
Cindy_:
you know what i mean?
21:26:44
Snipa:
Monero does not take care of your security, you should expect to have to work for it.
21:26:48
Cindy_:
ah i see
21:27:07
rawr_barky_blep:matrix.org:
oh shit :O
21:27:10
rawr_barky_blep:matrix.org:
ok
21:27:24
Cindy_:
i meant for normal users who don't know how to properly take care of their security
21:27:28
rawr_barky_blep:matrix.org:
so today, getting a UK ip
21:27:29
rawr_barky_blep:matrix.org:
while for a whole year that was a poland ip
21:27:40
Cindy_:
that makes sense lol
21:27:41
Snipa:
I mean, what do you define as a normal user?
21:27:42
Snipa:
:D
21:27:46
rawr_barky_blep:matrix.org:
(no vpn, just the default setup with graphene / silentlink)
21:27:56
Cindy_:
Snipa: someone who isn't a nerd about the inner workings of monero :P
21:28:02
Cindy_:
the "simple mode"
21:28:12
Snipa:
You've got everything from people like me who live on the CLI all day, which I'd consider to be completely normal who don't need to know how XMR works beyond normal CLI tooling.
21:28:36
Snipa:
Mine are a bit whiny because I don't let them connect to the net, my poor bandwidth is precious. :(
21:29:04
Cindy_:
browsers (or firefox) complain about HTTP connections to remote sites nowadays
21:29:12
Cindy_:
i wonder why monero clients don't do the same lol
21:29:32
rawr_barky_blep:matrix.org:
i guess just setting up a vpn will fix that for me then, thanks for the feedbacks yall
21:29:33
rawr_barky_blep:matrix.org:
uk ip routing is fucking me up today i guess
21:29:35
Snipa:
The CLI wallet whines unless you tag the remote nodes as trusted.
21:30:08
Cindy_:
oh
21:30:36
Snipa:
And that includes lan traffic, it's not like Monero doesn't try to help a little here and there, but there's also just way too many different ways, because for example, I'd assume most people are auctually using something like cake wallet, which really has to do all that work on it's own.
21:32:13
Snipa:
Realistically, the number of people who would notice a HTTP vs HTTPS is pretty low, and they're generally going to know what they're doing, not the other way around. :D
21:32:53
rawr_barky_blep:matrix.org:
Snipa: still 800lbs and being a piece of shit to your employees but still being an actual sweetheart btw? :3
21:32:59

what's the number of ISPs that'll grab the TXID of transactions that someomne sent over HTTP
21:33:06
Cindy_:
and associate it with their IPs
21:33:13
Snipa:
Not like I've ever changed that much. I assume we know each other from somewhere. xD
21:33:26
rawr_barky_blep:matrix.org:

21:33:32

rawr_barky_blep: what's the problem with being 800lbs
21:33:57

21:34:27
rawr_barky_blep:matrix.org:

21:36:35
Cindy_:
6'3, daaamn
21:37:31
rawr_barky_blep:matrix.org:
bright side is good temps rn to do the workout, and with upcoming xmas meals, could always do some more of that working out thing anyways :3
21:37:59

Eh, I've got FPGA's running in the garage, it's always like 75-80 in there now, even if it's 35 outside.
21:38:10
Snipa:
Makes for a surprisingly comfortable workout if I leave the garage door open. :D
21:38:11

what are those FPGAs doing?
21:38:20
rawr_barky_blep:matrix.org:

21:42:40
diego:cypherstack.com:
waaaaay back in the day
21:42:47
rawr_barky_blep:matrix.org:
pretty sure wownero had a mobile app that was by default a node, but the blockchain size over there way less bloated so that makes senses
21:42:58
Cindy_:
monero has monero-chan
21:42:58
Snipa:
I mix between CLI git and JetBrains.
21:43:03
Cindy_:
wownero has wario or something
21:43:08
Cindy_:
what does wownero have?
21:43:21
Snipa:
I also suffer through using Tari's CLI wallet on a daily basis.
21:43:30
Snipa:
So yanno, the masochism is real.
21:43:52
diego:cypherstack.com:
I'm pretty sure Stack was like the ONLY wownero wallet for a long time
21:43:53
diego:cypherstack.com:
cuz even wowlet didn't work for most
21:44:52
Snipa:
> Wants me to use Stack Wallet
21:44:52
Snipa:
> Only releases the worst linux distribution types.
21:45:09
ofrnxmr:xmr.mx:
Did someone say 800lbs > <@rawr_barky_blep:matrix.org> Snipa: still 800lbs and being a piece of shit to your employees but still being an actual sweetheart btw? :3
21:45:13
Snipa:
Going back to my nice cleanly compiled monero-wallet-cli
21:49:21
rawr_barky_blep:matrix.org:
Cindy_: oh right, have to try that too then i give up lol
21:49:41
Snipa:
Isn't the xmrchain node open for general use?
21:49:55
Snipa:
I should probally slap it behind https.
21:54:55
ofrnxmr:xmr.mx:
Snipa: No
21:55:37
reaster:matrix.reaster.dev:
hi, did any of you tried https://www.goblincards.com/ or heard about someone using it?
21:55:37
reaster:matrix.reaster.dev:
it’s been a while since i searched a card provider that don’t ask for a undecent amout or stupid stuff like % on each card payment
21:55:59
Snipa:
I'll have to poke at it some, I know we used to leave it available as a remote.
21:56:06
Snipa:
And it's on a nice chunky box now, so no reason not to.
21:57:56
rawr_barky_blep:matrix.org:
@reaster:matrix.reaster.dev: havent tried that one but got shotgun kyc'd by cake few years back, still havent redeemed it to this day...
21:57:56
rawr_barky_blep:matrix.org:
checked on plasbit as well cause they had a nice blogpost about xmr and how bitcoin people are unhinged or whatever but it was kyc'd as well, at least didnt waste money there cause they mentioned it being kyc'd while cake been saying "no kyc"
22:01:20
rawr_barky_blep:matrix.org:
@ofrnxmr:xmr.mx: u know if is graphene that does the routing to other countries by default? or is a silentlink thing?
22:01:31
ofrnxmr:xmr.mx:
Silentlink thing
22:01:42
rawr_barky_blep:matrix.org:
aight, thanks
22:08:05
rawr_barky_blep:matrix.org:
time to purchase a new phone and setup a different network type thing on it then... instead of donating to the ccs smh...
22:08:05
rawr_barky_blep:matrix.org:
like ffs, always something wrong with the techy shits
22:08:05
rawr_barky_blep:matrix.org:
that's literally why people hate nerds, shits never work, ever
22:23:22
ofrnxmr:xmr.mx:
Have you tried wifi or another network?
22:23:52
ofrnxmr:xmr.mx:
or tor or seth's node (should be one of the presets on cake)
22:23:56
rawr_barky_blep:matrix.org:
nah, it prob would work tho
22:23:56
rawr_barky_blep:matrix.org:
but when walking the doggos or whatever i not gonna be on wifi so...
22:24:03
ofrnxmr:xmr.mx:
I think diego's node also has https
22:24:34
rawr_barky_blep:matrix.org:
seth's node didnt work in my case
22:24:34
rawr_barky_blep:matrix.org:
orbot taking like half an hour to download the 39mb apk....
22:24:49
rawr_barky_blep:matrix.org:
like, everything worked fine for a whole year
22:25:18
rawr_barky_blep:matrix.org:
but i guess it changed the country from poland to uk and now it's all fucked up for some whatever reason
22:25:28
rawr_barky_blep:matrix.org:
even behind vpn which dont make sense to me
22:25:29
ofrnxmr:xmr.mx:
Cake and stack both have built-in tor > <@rawr_barky_blep:matrix.org> seth's node didnt work in my case
22:26:15
rawr_barky_blep:matrix.org:
skylight wallet as well which didnt work yesterday, will look into it for cake and stack rn, if can set it up that way
22:26:54
plowsof:
skylight wallet works fine, pointed at a working monero-lws instance
22:27:40
rawr_barky_blep:matrix.org:
assumed it does work fine but it's whatever routing is happening rn with silentlink that's fucking it up somehow
22:28:32
plowsof:
and what nodes dont work, we have plenty to choose from
22:29:54
plowsof:
is the universe telling me to set the onion url up and look at how the admin stuff works
22:32:12
ofrnxmr:xmr.mx:
I have an onion running on my lws
22:32:35
rawr_barky_blep:matrix.org:
oh... i guess could do the whole pfsense thing again on some rig, setup vpn at router level there, disable mobile data and do the ethernet dongle for the graphene phone... should work, so fucking lazy but i guess that's the only way for now, will set that up later
22:32:41
ofrnxmr:xmr.mx:
You can just point the same onion that you use for rpc, to lws and give it a port like 18086
22:32:57
ofrnxmr:xmr.mx:
(@plowsof)
22:33:32
plowsof:
👍
22:43:14
rawr_barky_blep:matrix.org:
aight fuck it, should have bought a fucking gaming computer but guess just buying a few more phones instead... to have with different setup, like, one without data at all but to use behind pfsense and vpn through dongle, an other for a different esim provider in monero... fucking hell...
22:43:14
rawr_barky_blep:matrix.org:
so i guess, yay people building mobile wallets yall gonna a few more feedbacks on those lol
22:43:14
rawr_barky_blep:matrix.org:
and that pixel would have been EoL by october next year anyways...
