00:56:37 neospal2:matrix.org: Hello, I am new to Monero and am in the process of trying to set up a Monero GUI wallet on my Linux Ubuntu 24.04 Desk top PC. I am using the terminal commands in my Ubuntu and have hit a snag with trying to down load the Hashes.txt file for verification of my installation. I am using the Tor browser with standard security (browser and website features are enabled). The download fa<clipped message>

00:56:50 neospal2:matrix.org: can anyone offer any help with correcting this problem?
01:52:37 neospal2:matrix.org: The problem may be my VPN and/or browser security settings. Checking that now.
02:04:17 jpk68: I could be wrong, but your IP is probably just blocked by Cloudflare. A number of people have been having issues with accessing the site recently
02:05:07 jpk68: wget fails on my end as well, both with VPN and without. wget doesn't use the browser, so your browser security settings are not the problem.
02:05:23 jpk68: I would suggest trying the command again without a VPN/Tor on
02:06:09 jpk68: If all else fails, you can just try and open the text file manually and then download it
05:19:28 ofrnxmr:xmr.mx: Use the github source
05:19:28 ofrnxmr:xmr.mx: https://raw.githubusercontent.com/monero-project/monero-site/refs/heads/master/downloads/hashes.txt
05:22:54 ofrnxmr:xmr.mx: jpk68, for some reason the cdn is blocking wget, curl, and some firefox browsers
07:57:15 neospal2:matrix.org: I used the command: wget https://raw.githubusercontent.com/monero-project/monero-site/refs/heads/master/downloads/hashes.txt and it looks like that worked. The response I get in the terminal is: --2026-02-22 23:52:18-- https://raw.githubusercontent.com/monero-project/monero-site/refs/heads/master/downloads/hashes.txt

08:10:15 neospal2:matrix.org: Not sure what directory it was sent to. I guess I will see if it shows up in either my "Home directory" or the "Downloads directory". That is where the wallet download (monero-gui-linux-x64-v0.18.4.5.tar.bz2) went.
08:40:54 ofrnxmr:xmr.mx: That saves to hashes.txt.1 << you probably alteady have a hashes.txt inthe sae folder
08:41:10 ofrnxmr:xmr.mx: It downloads to the folder that the terminal shoes it in
08:41:20 ofrnxmr:xmr.mx: If it doesnt show a folder (just username@host) then its probably in your home folder

Please forgive my ignorance, as you can tell I am not fluent in the operation of Linux. I am primarily focused on obtaining BTC and now XMR. Sort of a "learn as I go"deal.
